Unilever responsive site design (2014)

After re-skinning their existing site as a quick clean up, we were able to move on to the major task of designing and building the whole of Unilever’s global sites with up to date code and better back end systems.

They needed it to be stand-out in their industry, which meant it at least needed to be fully responsive and engaging, as well as easy for site editors across the globe to update.

Our approach was to throw Photoshop away and work completely in browser. This meant that we had to learn SASS on the fly but also meant that we could work iteratively in such an easier way. The client only ever saw one version and we could make changes to tens of pages in as little as 30 seconds.

It was a huge challenge, especially as the client was used to variations and we were used to Photoshop visuals. But after a few presentations and sprints, everyone clicked.
